He worked as a machinist apprentice at the Cumberland and Pennsylvania Railroad Shops in Mount Savage until November 1943 when he joined the U.S. Army. James (Jim) Merrill Turley of West Lafayette passed away at IU Arnett Hospital in Lafayette around 2:15 p.m. on December 10, 2019. He lived his life not by the harvest he reaped, but by the seeds he planted. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Kay; his sister, Lavonne Thomas; children, Ken Turley, Valarie Allman and husband Jimmy, Denise Turley, Lance Turley and wife Diane, Lisa Marttala and husband David, and Lyle Turley and wife Erin. As a Scott County native, a Purdue alumnus, & member of Saint Thomas Aquinas church during my college studies I have many special memories of the places that Jim called home.
